    Let’s be social!

    There are always great opportunities to network and have fun at the Washington GIS Conference. This year is no exception.

    Tuesday, May 21 from 5:15 – 7:30 PM

    Gallery at Hotel Murano

    This year’s Conference Welcome Social will be held Tuesday evening, May 21 at 5:15 PM at the Hotel Murano.  Find your way to the Gallery and answer a fun question to enter the WAURISA Speak Easy!  Also, play our Speak Easy Scavenger Hunt for a chance to win a prize.  Light appetizers will be provided and there will be a cash bar.


    Washington Women in GIS & Technology (WWGT) User Group Meeting

    Join the Washington Women in GIS & Technology (WWGT) User Group Meeting for lunch on Wednesday, May 22 from 12:00 PM - 1:00 PM.  Grab your lunch and come to the conference room (GTCC Rm 316) to socialize, share experiences, ask questions and briefly learn what the WWGT has planned for the rest of the year.

    Evening Social

    Wednesday, May 22 from 6:30 – 8:00 PM

    7 Seas Brewery, 2101 Jefferson Avenue

    After learning what the exhibitors have to offer at the Exhibitor’s Social on Wednesday, May 22, head on down to the 7 Seas Brewery at 2101 Jefferson Avenue, just a few blocks south of the Convention Center after 6:30 PM for more fun at the Evening Social.  We will be playing WAURISA Pub Trivia in the reserved side room, so start putting together your teams of 2 - 4 players!  If you don’t have a team, come on down and we will match you up!  In addition to the provided appetizers, there will be other food and beverages available for purchase.

    Changes to Pre-Conference Workshops

    There have been a number of changes to the Pre-Conference Workshops.

    Added to the list of workshops is a new offering from Geocortex –

    Working Smarter with Geocortex and Web AppBuilder for ArcGIS presented by Ryan Cooney. This is a half day workshop presented in the morning of Monday, May 21.

    Unfortunately, the following workshops were cancelled:

    Improved 9-1-1 Indoor Location Accuracy for mobile devices

          - This was moved to a regular session during the conference.

    Customize ArcMap Tools with Python Add-ins

    Call for Nominations to The Summit Award

    Nominations are now being accepted for Washington URISA’s Summit Award, aka GIS Person of the Year. The Summit Award recognizes the "highest contribution to the Washington GIS Community". It is presented during the annual Washington GIS Conference for highest contributions by an individual to the Washington State GIS Community.

    Everyone that has earned The Summit Award exuded professionalism, grace, and a get-it-done-with-a-smile attitude.  This is your chance to nominate a person that exemplifies these qualities.

    Criteria for The Summit Award:

    • ¨      The nominee has changed the GIS profession in some "significant way."
    • ¨      The person shall have practiced the profession for at least 10 years within Washington State.
    • ¨      The nominee shall have made a significant contribution to the GIS profession and community in Washington State.
    • ¨      The person should be known for their excellent work and successful projects in the GIS field.
    • ¨      The nominee should have volunteered significant time for the GIS profession and community in Washington State.
    • ¨      The nominee should not be a current WAURISA board member.

    To submit a nomination, please email your submittal to nominations@waurisa.org. Nominations are due Wednesday, April 10.

    Last chance! Call for Presentations due March 27th

    The deadline is just around the corner for abstract submissions for the 2019 Washington GIS Conference. 

    Submit your abstract for a 30, 60, or 90-minute presentation, panel discussion, or lightning talk by March 27th.   Check out the webpage for more information on presenter benefits, as well as, the submission details and requirements.

    Calling All Students!

    The deadline for abstract submissions extended to March 15th!

    Students! Here is your chance to share your original work related to GIS, geography, or geographic research by entering the Dick Thomas Student Presentation Competition and Award, the DTA. The DTA Committee has extended submission due date to March 15.

    If you are chosen to present, this is your opportunity to attend the Washington GIS Conference for free, gain recognition in the professional community, raise awareness of critical issues, and be eligible to win cash prizes.

    The DTA Student Presentation Competition will occur on Thursday, May 23rd during the 2019 Washington GIS Conference at the Greater Tacoma Convention Center.

    The deadline is fast approaching for abstract submissions for the 2019 Washington GIS.  Submit your 30 to 90 minute presentation, lightning talk or panel discussion by March 27, 2019.  Please refer to the presentations informational page on the conference website for details!

    Individuals chosen to present will receive a discount to Conference registration, gain recognition by their peers, raise awareness of critical issues, and identify current trends in the industry.

    WAURISA is pleased to announce that Conference registration is now open to register for workshops and the conference. This year WAURISA is proud to have two full days of high caliber workshops along with two days of the conference. The workshops range from ½ day sessions to 1-day classes. For a full list of this year’s workshops and information on the Washington Government GIS Leaders meeting, check out the Workshops webpage. We are again returning to the Hotel Murano Tacoma for the conference hotel and workshops. More information can be found on the conference webpage.

    Call for Maps, Posters, Scripts and Web Applications

     The Washington State Chapter of URISA (WAURISA) invites you to share your best poster, map, web applications or script with the broader community at the 2019 Washington GIS Conference.

    This year’s poster presentation showcase will provide the opportunity to share and exhibit your creative talents, inspire your peers and potentially earn some cash in the process!

    Categories

           Best Cartographic Design

           Best Analytic Presentation

           Best Data Integration

           Best Online Interactive (Web) Map

           Best Student Map

           Best Innovative Scripting or Geoprocessing Tool

           Best Mobile App


    Contest Details

    Submissions may include:

            Online interactive map / app

            Mobile Apps

            Scripts

            Maps and posters to display in our gallery

    o   Poster size dimensions will need to be no larger than 48” x 96”.


    Entrees must be submitted through our online form and must meet guidelines outlined on our website.  Submissions that do not meet these guidelines will not be displayed at the conference.

    Fellow conference attendees will cast votes for their favorite entry for each category. The winners will receive Amazon gift card prizes.  Posters are not allowed to be removed prior to 1:00 PM on Thursday, May 23. Posters left behind will not be returned. Entrants do not have to attend the conference; however, there is no guarantee their map or poster will be displayed in their absence.

    Call for Presentations & Panels for the 2019 Washington GIS Conference

    The Washington State Chapter of the Urban and Regional Information Systems Association (WAURISA) invites you to share your experience, expertise, and knowledge with colleagues and offer solutions for success by presenting at our 2019 annual conference.

    Individuals chosen to present will gain recognition by their peers, raise awareness of critical issues, and identify current trends in the industry.

    The Presentations Sub-Committee is seeking presenters to share a wide range of GIS topics and will select presentations, panel discussions, and lightning talks to reflect an array of interests and levels of expertise. Selection will be based on the value of the proposed topic to the audience and the clarity of the abstract.

    Please submit an abstract for presenting any of the following:

    • Project Presentations - 30 to 90 minutes long, or
    • Lightning Talks - no longer than 15 minutes, or
    • Panels - participant list must be formed prior to abstract submittal

    Abstract Submission DEADLINE: March 27, 2019
